In company with Morise Beauchene and Chester Crotteau, boys of about his age, he rode out to the swimming place on a bicycle and was the first to get undressed and dash into the water. To the horror of his companion he failed to come up after making a dive. Help was summoned from near by but it was nearly an hour before his body was recovered. Melvin Shervey was among the first to dive and located the body, but was unable to free the boy's grasp from a stump. Alfred Michaelson later recovered the body. Every effort was made to restore consciousness, but in vain. There was little water in the boy's lungs and it is supposed that he was seized with a sudden cramp from getting into the water soon after supper and while heated from the ride to the swimming hole. Emil was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Roberge who reside on a farm a half mile west of the city limits. He is survived by his parents, three brothers, Harry, Clarence and Donald, and a sister, Madeline. He was fourteen years of age on May 19. Emil was a very popular boy, of exceptionally kind disposition, and greatly beloved by all who knew him. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from St. Joseph's church, the Rev. Van Helden officiating, and was largely attended, his schoolmates marching to St. Joseph's cemetery where interment was made. Mr. Roberge and family have the sincere sympathy of all in their loss and sorrow."
