Submitted by: Kent Robarge 28 September 2003 ************************************************************************ Obituary of Peter Roux in January 5, 1938 Rice Lake Chronotype (Rice Lake, Barron County, WI) Peter Roux Funeral services for Peter Roux, 68, pioneer resident of Rice Lake, were held Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic church at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. B. Niggeman officiating. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery. Mr. Roux was found dead in his bed at 10 a.m. Thursday at the home of Mrs. Sarah Mireau, where he lived, by his sister, Mrs. Fred Amans. Death was due to a stroke of apoplexy. Mr. Roux was born Jan. 21, 1869 in Canada, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Roux. When he was 15 he came to Rice Lake with his parents and they settled on a farm east of here. In 1894 he was married to Miss Josephine Beffa in Rice Lake. Mrs. Roux passed away in 1900. During his residence here Mr. Roux worked as a lumberjack and operated a farm. He had a home on the north side but solid it some time ago and rented a room at the Mireau home. Mr. Roux is survived by his son, Alfred, of Chippewa Falls; daughter, Mrs. Herbert Hayes, Route 4, Rice Lake; two brothers, Joseph of Milwaukee and Homer of Canada; and four sisters, Mrs. Belle Amans and Mrs. Josephine Secore, both of Rice Lake; Mrs. Leona Turbanhain, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Amanda Dupree, New York.
