Submitted by: Kent Robarge 03 August 2007 ************************************************************************ Obituary of Alois Schieffer in Wed., Aug. 9, 1961 Rice Lake Chronotype (Rice Lake, Barron Co., WI) Alois Schieffer Rites to be Held At Dobie Church Alois Schieffer, 74, resident of the Rice Lake area for about 30 years, died Monday night at a local hospital where he had been confined since suffering a stroke several weeks ago. Funeral service will be held Thusday morning at 9 o'clock at Our Lady of Lourdes church in Dobie with Rev. Jerome Trantow of St. Joseph's parish here officiating. Interment will be made in St. Joseph's cemetery. Mr. Schieffer was born April 10, 1887 at St. Mary's Ridge, Wis. He settled on the prairies of South Dakota as a young man and there was married to Marie Duenwald. They farmed there for about 20 years and Mr. Schieffer was active in contracting work. They came to Rice Lake in the early 1930's where he continued farming and construction work. He is survived by his wife; five sons, Arnold of Morton Grove, Ill., Robert of Rice Lake, William of Huber, Calif., and Al and Royal of Reseda, Calf.; 11 daughters, Mrs. Hilda Harris of Upland, Calif., Mrs. Lorraine Palmquist of Rice Lake, Mrs. Matilda Jensen of Milwaukee, Mrs. Alice Tripp of Rice Lake, Mrs. Viola Bollmes of Covina, Calif., Mrs. Mary Johnson of St. Paul, Mrs. Dorothy Shepardson of Milwaukee, Mrs. Beatrice Scheuer of Rice Lake, Mrs. Joanne Buerge of Rice Lake. Also surviving are 54 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, three sisters, Sister Arnoldine of the Franciscan Community at La Crosse, Mrs. A. G. Kelnhofer of Rice Lake and Mrs. Henry Richter of Rice Lake and by two brothers, Peter and Joseph of Rice Lake. A rosary will be recited this evening at the Schneider-Mason Funeral home at 8 o'clock.
