Submitted by: Barbara Horn 03 June 2004 ************************************************************************ Barron Co News Shield 29 May 1925 pg 1 Anders Hanson Severud is Dead at Maple Grove Anders Hanson Severud, Maple Grove pioneer, died at his home in that township, Friday May 22, at the age of 83 years and 22 days. The funeral was held Monday, in the Maple Grove Lutheran Church, the Rev A O Running, of Dallas officiating in English, and the Rev H Lund, of Chetek in Norwegian. The funeral was a large one, and the attendance as well as the profusion of flowers testified as to the high regard in which this venerable gentleman has been held. The interment was in the church cemetery. Anders Hanson Severud was born April 30, 1842, in Bruflat, Etne Dalen, Valders, Norway, the son of Hans and Johanna Severud. He was reared in his native parish, and was there confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In 1869 he married Berthe Dorstuen and by this union had four sons, Erick, Hans, John (now deceased), and Knut. Mrs Berthe Dorstuen Severud died in 1876, killed by the explosion of an oil lamp soon after the youngest son was born. The next year, Mr Severud brought his children to Maple Grove, where he married Allette Engejordet, who bore him one son, Ole A Hanson. She died about 17 years ago. On his arrival in Maple Grove, Mr Severud bought the farm where he spent the remainder of his life. He developed a fine place and bacame one of the solid and substantial men of the community, greatly respected by all who knew him. He leaves four sons: Erick, of the town of Maple Grove; Ole A, on the homestead; Knut of Dallas; and Hans of Maple Grove. There are also three brothers, Knut Hanson and Halvor Hanson, of Maple Grove, and Ole H Severud, of Dallas. The fours sons, and two of the brothers, Knut and Halvor were the bearers. pg 2 East Maple Grove Andrew Hanson, pioneer of Barron County, passed away at his home here on Friday, May 22. Funeral services were held at the New Scandinavian church on Monday. pg 3 Dallas Anders Hanson, a well known and respected Dallas pioneer, died at his home north of this village last Friday and funeral services were held from the Maple Grove Lutheran church on Monday.
