Obituary: Reported in the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Tuesday, June 29, 1999 Elmer J. Wery, 83, De Pere, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 1999 at home. He was born Feb. 16, 1916 in Thiry Daems, Kewaunee County to Jule and Catherine (Jadin) Wery. On May 31, 1943, he married Rita Sauvey at St. Patrick's Church in Green Bay. For all of his working career, Elmer was associated with the motor carrier industry commencing July of 1934 with Peters Trucking and retiring as Vice President and Director of Commerce from Clairmont Transfer Co. in January of 1982. He was a member of Our lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and its Ushers Club; a 4th Degree Member of the St. Jude Assembly and a 3rd Degree Member of the Abbot Pennings Council of the Knights of Columbus; the De Pere Golden K; and the Concerned Hearts Club. Elmer was Past President of the Experienced Traffic Club and the Ancient Order of Pine Snakes. He also did volunteer work for the Brown County Commission on Aging. Elmer is survived by Rita, his wife of 56 years; two sons and their spouses, Allan "Al" and Patricia Wery, Green Bay; John "Jack" and Eileen Wery, Coral Springs, Fla.; three daughters and their spouses, Barbara and George Landolt, New Berlin; Mary Therese and Vaughn DeVorse, New Berlin; Carol and Kenneth Peterson, Plymouth, Minn.; one brother and sister-in-law; Marvin and Beverly Wery, Wausaukee; one sister and brother-in-law, Rosella and Richard Zellner, Norman, Wis. He will also be missed by six grandsons and seven granddaughters. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Raymond. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 pm. Wednesday at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere. Knights of Columbus service 6:45 pm. Prayer service 7 pm. Visitation will continue from 10 to 11 am Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, corner of Lourdes Ave. and Suburban Dr., De Pere. Mass of Christian Burial 11 am Thursday at the church with the Rev. Conrad Kratz O.Praem officiating. Entombment in the Allouez Mausoleum.
