Obituary: Buffalo County, Wisconsin: John KOSTNER ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, April 2008 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From"The Arcadia Leader"_December 15, 1922__ "As briefly announced in our last weeks issue the death of John Kostner occurred at St.Francis Hospital at La Crosse, after he had undergone an operation for appendicitis, and to which other complications set in which caused his demise during the night of Wednesday Dec. 6, 1922, after a week of suffering. Deceased was born on Feb. 26, 1853 at Roxbury, Dane County,Wisconsin. Later he came with his parents to the town of Glencoe(Buffalo County,Wisconsin) where they opened a farm. On July 6, 1875 he was united in marriage with Miss Pauline Schaefer. They made their home on the farm but later moved to Arcadia where Mr. Kostner was employed in various ways, mostly doing contract and mason work. Being a man of active dispositon he made himself useul in many ways, always taking a keen interest in the upbuilding of his home city, with special attention to streets, as he for a number of years held the position of Street Comissionor. Besides the sorrowing widow he leaves nine children to mourn his demise, The children are: John, Ralph, and Jerome of Medford,Wis.;Joseph ,St. Paul ,Minn,; Mrs. George Arnold , Mankato, Minn. George, Norbert, Mrs.George Haines and Mrs. Emil Zastrow, Arcadia,Wis. He also leaves one sister Mrs. John Mecklenburg of St. Olaf, Iowa, and a large number of grandchildren and other relatives. The remains were brought to his home here and the funeral was held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church ,Saturday morning, the Rev. J. L. Hauck officiating, and large concourse of friends and relatives attending. Interment was made in Myers Valley cemetery. Those from a distance who attended the funeral of the late John Kostner were, Mrs. John Mecklenburg, St Olaf, Iowa, Mrs Nie Mueller, and Adam Schaefer, Duluth, Minn; Joseph Kostner and son Lynn, Mrs Emil Hug ,Mrs. Martin Berg. St. Paul, Minn,; Mr. and Mrs. Heman Arnold, Mankato, Minn.; John ,Ralph and Jerome Kostner, from Medford, Wisconsin."
