Alexander Lauder, 79, Dies at Hertel. Alexander Lauder, of Hertel, for nearly 41 years a resident of Burnett county, died at his home January 8th of pneumonia, aged 79 years, two months, and eight days. Deceased was born at River Falls on October 31, 1860, and was united in marriage to Edith Hotchkiss at River Falls on December 24, 1889. To this union were born a son, Marvin Lauder, of Elm Hurst, Ill.; and a daughter, Mrs. Inez Altman of Hertel. After a residence of seven years at River Falls, they moved to Iowa where in partnership with a brother James Lauder, he conducted a drug store. In 1899 the family moved to Burnett county and have lived there continuously since. During their first 12 years here Mr. Lauder carried mail from Shell Lake to Krueger; later they conducted a general store at Hertel and since 1917 they have operated their farm Mr. Lauder is survived by his widow and two children, and one brother, Gaven Lauder. The death of Mr. Lauder marks the passing of another of Burnett county's pioneer citizens, who have watched development from a wilderness to a thriving community. Notes: Edith (Hotchkiss) Lauder, was the sister of Charlotte (Hotchkiss) Hertel. Inez (Lauder) Altman, became Inez Johnsrud after the death of her 1st husband, Russell Altman, she marriedTollef Johnsrud. Inez, and both of her husbands are buried at white pine too. The general store in Hertel that Alexander and Edith ran is the original Hertel General Store, that was opened by Otto and Charlotte Hertel.
