"Through the courtesy of Hon. Alex Meggett, president of the Old
Settlers' Association, we have been put in possession of the names of
the old settlers up to the year 1863, as near as can be ascertained. 
These old settlers not only include the pioneers living in Eau Claire
county, but likewise in the neighboring counties of Chippewa, Dunn,
