Portage Daily Register
Daniel Babcock died at his residence Oct 17, 1889. The funeral was held on 
Saturday. He was buried with honors by the GAR, the William Payne Post, in the 
Wyocena Cemetery. Mr. Babcock served in the Civil War. He enlisted with the 
Wisconsin 10th Regiment, Co. D. on Sept. 5, 1861 and was discharged for 
disability on Dec. 23, 1862. 
He was blessed with eight children, seven of whom survive him. His first wife, 
Margaret Smith died in Wyocena in 1869 and is buried at the Wyocena Cemetery. 
Daniel was buried beside her. In May of 1870 he married Eunice Phoebe Lawton. 
She is left to mourn her husband.
