One of the most useful and respected citizens of the village, and a member of the group of business men who came to Soldiers Grove about the same time as the railroad, was Frank Clancy. T. F. Clancy, or Frank, as he was known by his host of friends, was born June 7th 1871 at Liberty Pole, Vernon County. His parents were John and Catherine Clancy. In the early part of his life he entered into the well drilling business, which in those days was a business necessary to the building of a new country. Some years later, Frank and his brother, Charles, opened a harness business in Soldiers Grove, which Frank continued to operate until a few years prior to his death which occurred on Novenmber 18, 1946. A resume of his political career is evidence of his popularity and willingness to be of service to his community. In 1912 he was elected Member of the State Assembly for the 1913- 1914 session. For many years he was in turn, Treasurer, President and then Supervisor of the Village of Soldiers Grove. As president of the School Board, in which capacity he served for 24 years, his counsel was at all times progressive and for the advancement of our public schools. At the time of his death, Frank was Chairman of the Crawford County Mediation Board, Chairman of the Crawford County Pension and Relief Committee and President of the School Board. On June 23, 1897, Frank was united in marriage to Miss Mayme Kane of Seneca, Wis. Three children were born to this union, Cornele, Robert and a boy who died in infancy.
