J., Church on Oct. 1, 1865, verify that A. R. Cornwall declined to accept a call to serve this church because of the difficulty to procure a successor at the Academy in his absence. At a Nov, 26, 1865, meeting, a letter from A. R. Cornwall stated that he intended to come through the winter but could not stay long. At a special meeting on Feb. 18, 1866, where A. R. Cornwall was present, he thought that if a professorship could be found for the Academy, he might be able to "labor for this church" for one year but might require to be absent two or three months during the year. It was resolved that A. R. Cornwall would serve the Church for one year beginning with April 1 for $1000 and that his traveling expenses to and from Wisconsin be paid.
