On Monday morning Feb. 2, 1885, at the home of Mr. I. D. Cole's Miss Carrie Eager, consumption. The deceased was born in Rutland, Dane County, Wis. Feb. 12, 1856, and joined the Methodist church in August 1875. She came to Dakota in 1881, filed on her first piece of government land in that year, on which the town of Diana now stands. Two of her brothers are still living, but her parents are both dead. She has been a constant sufferer for nine years; the last five of which she has lived with her uncle and aunt, I. D. Cole and wife. During her continued illness everything that kind friends could do to alleviate her pains was done but it was not in the power of earthly mortals to longer save her life. Although her sufferings were constant and intense, she was conscious to the last selecting the chapter to be read, and verse for the text of the funeral sermon, which was Romans 12 chapter and last verse. She was ever more mindful of others than herself and a few hours before death called for her aunt to tell her how good and kind she had been and asked her to be calm and try and bear up, saying, "It is all right God knows best," The funeral was held at Mr. Cole's Tuesday at 11 a.m. and presided over by Rev. A. K. Campbell, at which there was a large attendance. The remains were sent yesterday to Rutland, Wis. for interment. Mrs. D. Cole accompanying them. Sanborn Co. (D. T.)
