At the age of 22 she and her younger brother, Martin came to America where their brother, Hans Olsen had provided a home for them, and where she spent the first year learning the customs and language of her adopted nation and state. January 2, 1872, she was united in marriage to Nels Peterson. Twelve children were born to bless this union six of whom preceded them to the "Better Land." With the exception of one year their entire married life was spent on Jug Prairie. In 1879 they purchased what is now known as the Peterson Homestead, residing there until 1915, when they retired from active farm life and moved to their home they purchased in the village of Brooklyn. They had lived here scarcely a year when Mr. Peterson was called home. Brooklyn, From Brooklyn Teller column, Evansville Review, July 7, 1921, Evansville, Wisconsin
