(NICHOLS) DICKINSON. Obit is from the Janesville Gazzette, Thurs. 07 Apr 1999 DICKINSON, THOMAS WILLIAM II Edgerton-Thomas William Dickinson II, age 76, of 23 Lilac lane, died Tues., Oct 5, 1999, at Memorial Community Hospital from complications of Leukemia and diabetes. He was born Sept. 2, 1923, the son of T. William and Katherine (Nichols) Dickinson. Tom graduated from Edgerton High School in 1941 and UW-Madison in 1948. He enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army on Dec 7, 1942 and was released from active duty as a first leutenant on Aug. 30, 1946, after serving in the Mid-Pacific Theater. He remained in the Army Reserve until April 8, 1962, when he was discharged as a captain. In Oct 6, 1947 Tom and Anita Marie Meyers were married in Morgan, MN and returned to Edgerton to raise a family. Joining his father in the family firm, Dickinson Tobacco Co., Tom worked in Wisconsin, North Carolina, Germany and Haiti, processing and handling various types of leaf tobacco. In 1969 he joined the Utility Division of Highway Trailer's sales department and retired in 1989 from the successor company, Dorsey Trailer Co., as the utility distributor manager. He was elected as a member of the Edgerton Common Council and the Edgerton Board of Education. Tom served as Justice of the Peace and Secretary of the Edgerton Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the board of directors of the National Bank of Edgerton, the Edgerton Farmer's Wharehouse Co., the Farmers-to Consumers Co., the Wisconsin Leaf Tobacco Dealers and Growers Assoc., and the Thiebeau Hunting Club. Tom was a trustee of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Albion Prairie Cemetery Association. He was a member of the American Legion, the Edgerton Rotary Club, Phi Gamma Delta, and a 4th degree knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #6508. The following year, Tom and Anita were honored as Grand Marshals if the Tobacco Heritage Days Parade. In addition, Tom recieved the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award from Rotary International, an award that is bestowed on few rotarians. He is survived by his wife, Anita; 2 daughters, Kathleen (John) Correll of McFarland, WI, Elizabeth "Betsy" of Reno, NV; 4 sons; Thomas III (Ann) of Arlington, VA., Terrence (Cathy), Timothy (mary and daughter Allison), both of Edgerton, Anthony (Lucy) Of Cedarburg, WI; 2 sisters, Yvonne (Leonard) Bleser of Henderson, NV., and Suzanne Strauss (Charles) of Pewaukee; 7 grandchildren; Kevin, Alexander and Hanah Correll of McFarland, WI, Annelise and Thomas William Dickinson IV of Arlington, VA, Tyler and Adam Dickinson of Edgerton; 2 nieces, Mary Jo Furman (Jay) of Beloit, and Susan Rodriquez (Eloy) of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, George, in infancy. Tom's family is anxious to hear from everyone whose life he touched. Please attend the visitation at Albrecht Funeral Home, Edgerton, on Sum. Oct. 10, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m., with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. A funeral mas will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Mon.
