Thurs 08 May 1941: WEETMAN DICKINSON, WELL KNOWN CITIZEN LAID TO REST SATURDAY Many Persons Attend Funeral Of Prominent Tobacco Man At Methodist Church The community was stunned last Wednesday noon, April 30, when the word passed around that Weetman Dickinson had just died about 11 o'clock. He had been sick hust a few days and was thought to be recovering, but his strength suddenly waned and within a few minutes he slipped away into the dreamless sleep. Weetman Dickinson was born February 8, 1863, on Albion Prairie and was a son of William and Eliza Dickinson. He was educated in the Gravel Store school and in the Albion Academy. For two terms he served as president of the Albion Academy Alumni group. In 1896 he gave up farming to make Edgerton his home for the rest of his life, and has been engaged in business here ever since that time. On May 20, 1896, he was untied in Marriage to Lucy Esgar. Surviving relatives are the widow, one son, T. W. Dickinson, city, a daughter, Mrs. William H. Bonneville, Chevy Chase, Md., five grandchildren, a brother, George L. Dickisnon, and a sister, Mrs. J.L. Holton, both of this city. Mr. Dickinson was closely identified with the life of the community. Among his many connections were the following; He was a charter member of the Knights of Pythias lodge, a member and former president if the Wisconsin Tobacco Dealers and Growers association, alderman of this city for many years, one of the founders of the Edgerton County club, a member ot the Thiebeau Hunting club, and vice president of the National Bank of Edgerton. He was a member of various Masonic orders, including Fulton Lodge No. 69, the Chapter, Janesville Commandary, Madison Consistory and Zor Shrine. Long after these statistics are forgotten, Mr. Dickinson will be remembered for his real worth to the community. He had the happy faculty of being able to meet many of life's perplexing situations with a laugh; that he had an infectious sense of humor which proved to be a saving grace in many difficult and trying situations. One of his close associates said of him, "Weetman fought for what he believed to be right." He took the side of the underdog, ever seeking and giving fair play. He carried no grudge in his heart, what had been when it passed, was "water over the dam" To note: A poem is also published in the obit, but I have not copied it here.
