Son of Conrad and Anna Mary (GRATHWOHL) GUMBEL, Jr. Married Helen Mabel SINGER on 11 Mar 1914 at her parents home in PA. Obituary, The Edgerton Reporter, Thursday May 06, 1976: AUGUST J. GUMBLE Mr. August J. Gumble, 90, Route 1, Edgerton, died Saturday, May 1 at Memorial Community Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Gumble was born May 3, 1885 at Paupack, PA. to Conrad and Anna Grothwald. He was married March 11, 1914 at Paupack, PA. to Helen Singer. Mr. Gumble came to the Edgerton area in 1906 from Pennslyvania. He was a member of the Albion Prairie Primitive Methodist Church, a former member of the church board and the Albion civic club. He was a foreman at the Edgerton Highway Trailer Industries for 20 years retiring in 1948. Gumble was also a salesman for the Pioneer Seed Corn Co. from 1948-1967. His survivors include his wife, Helen; two daughters. Mrs. Rodney Peterson, Stoughton; and Mrs. CHarles Lavery, San Diego, Claif; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren' five brothers, Edwin, George,Leland, Roy, and Floyd, all of Paupack, PA.; and one sister; Mrs. Anna Couts, Paupack, PA. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday May 3 at the Ellingson-Nygaard Funeral home with the Reverend Richard Lewis of the Albion Primitive Methodist Church officiating. The Song Service was by Mrs. Louis Marsden. Pallbearers were Leland Marsden, Sterling Marsden, Louis Marsden and Vernon Graf. Burial was at the Albion Prairie Primitive Methodist Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by the Ellingson-Nygaard Funeral Home. GUMBLE, Helen Mabel 11 Mar 1888- 24 Sep 1985 Born in Palmyra twnshp, Pike Co., PA. Dau of Charles W. and Caroline Bertha (DELLING) SINGER. Married August John GUMBLE on 11 Mar 1914 at her parents home in PA. Helen's pickle recipe: Into a 1 Qt. Jar put: 1 head of dills, and some seeds 1 lg clove garlic 1 or more Tbls salt smallest pickling cucumbers you can find Fill with water to cover pickles, but don't fill to top of jar. Close tightly Let stand on counter for 10-12 days and then place in refridgerator. Chill and eat. They will stay good for a few months There is no vinegar in this recipe, and is the only no vinegar recipe I have ever heard of. I remember eating these as a kid visiting ggrandma and ggrandpa. They have a fizzy taste that is unique to this recipe.
