Married William Davis HEMPHILL on 23 Dec 1886 Obit is from the Wisconsin Tobacco Reporter, Edgerton, Rock Co., Wi., Thur. 31 Dec 1936: Mr. W. D. HEMPHILL Lena Halverson, daughter of Nielse and Ingeborg Halverson, was born on May 28, 1860, on Albion Prairie, and died at her home in Edgerton at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, bringing her age to 76 years, 5 months and 5 days. Mrs. Hemphill died on the date of her golden wedding anniversary. On December 23, 1886, she was united in marrieage to Will D. Hemphill of Sumner, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. The ceremony eas performed by Rev. Simon Babcock of Albion. This union was blessed with one son. Immediately after their marriage they began housekeeping on a farm near Busseyville, where they resided until 1911, when they came to Edgerton an settled in their new home on Blaine street, where she lived up to the time of her death. On June 1, 1924, she came by letter from the M.E. church and united with the Congregational church of Edgerton. She was a woman of beautiful Christian traits and characture, a gentle soul, ever mindfull of others. She was greatly loved by all of her friends and neighbors, quiet and unassuming in all of her demeanor. She loved her home, her flowers, and her garden. May her memory as one who loved her church and her Savior abide with us. Mrs. Hemphill had been ailing for some time and during all this time had every care and consideration from her loved ones. During the latter days of her illness she was especially waited upon and tenderly cared for by Miss Mildred Settle of Chicago, who did her best to ease her suffering before her passing. She leaves to mourn, her husband and her son, Harold, three sisters, Mrs. Anna Russell of Beach, North Dakota, Mrs. Mary Kahl of Fort Atkinson and Mrs. Amelia Barton of Busseyville. Funeral services took place from her late home on Blaine street at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, December 26. Burial was made in the Albion Prairie cemetery. Rev. F. W. Schoenfeld, a close friend and neighbor of the family, officiated at the service, using the scripture texts of her own choosing; Second Cor. 4th Chapter and 17th Verse-"For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding weight of Glory." Second Cor. 12th Charper and 19th verse-"My grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is more perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon us." Mrs. M.E. Dunwell, Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Miss Fern Schoenfeld sang Mrs. Hemphill's two favorite church humns. The pall bearers were Messrs. John Ford, Fred North, George Farman, Jim Burnes, C.S. Midtbon and James Wilcox. HEMPHILL, William Davis 28 Nov 1862- 23 Feb 1943 Son of William and Sarah (CLARK) HEMPHILL Married Lena HALVERSON on 23 Dec 1886 Obit is from the Wisconsin Tobacco Reporter, Edgerton, Rock Co., Wi., Thur., 04 Mar 1943: WILLIAM HEMPHILL DIES SUDDENLY William Hemphill, 80, a resident of this city for many years, died Tuesday evening , February 23, at 8 o'clock in the Memorial hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Hemphill was taken suddenly ill while down town Tuesday, but prepious to that time had been in good health. He was born in November 28, 1862, near Busseyville. He was united in marriage to Helena Halverson, who passed away six years ago. Mr. Hemphill, who was a retired farmer, resided at 302 Blaine street for many years. He is survivied by one son, Harold, of Chicago. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Hemphill home. Burial was made in the Albion Prairie cemetery with Rev. E.M. Oliver officiating.
