THe Edgerton Reporter, Edgerton, Rock Co., Wi., Wed. 01 Nov 1989: LOCAL MAN IS KILLED IN CONSTRUCTION ACCIDENT A 56-year-old rural Edgerton man was killed Oct. 24 when a grader backed over him on Highway AB, along the northwest shore of Lake Kegonsa in Dunn township. Duane Marsden, 906 County A, fell near the rear of the grader which crushed him to death about 1:45 p.m. Marsden, a Dane County Highway Department flagman, slipped and fell behind the left rear tire of the grader. At that point, the machine went into reverse and backed over Marsden. According to Dane County Sherrif's Department deputies' reports, the man operating the grader did not see Marsden until tw wheels had completely rolled over him. The warning signal on the grader was properly functioning. Marsden, who apparently had just walked from the front to the rear of the grader when he fell, was working with a crew redurfacing the shoulder of the road with hot mix. He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, where he was pronounced dead at 2;45 p.m. Dr. Billy Bauman conducted an autopsy Wednesday to try to determine why Marsden fell.
