Obit is from the Wisconsin Tobacco Reporter, Edgerton, Rock Co.,Wi, Fri 20 Jan 1928: Mrs. Lucy Hemphill Slagg Lucy Hemphill Slagg, daughter of William and Sarah Hemphill, was born in Almond, N.Y., July 24th, 1849. When about five years of age she came west with her parents who took up residence in this community and she has made her home in this vicinity ever since that early age. She attended the Albion Academy and later Milton College where she trained herself for a teacher. She served her community in the capacity of teacher for many years and as long as her pupils live she will comtinue to live in her influence as a teacher. On June 1st, 1878, she was united in marriage to Albert E. Slagg and to them were born five children, four of whom are still living. They are John A. Slagg, Albion, Wm. E. Slagg, of Eau Claire, WIs. Mable E. (Mrs. Roy Hayes) of Albion, and Lucy M. (Mrs. Clifford Townsend), who has always made her home with her mother. Rose E. Slagg died at the age of ten. In June, 1921, Mr. Slagg passed away very suddenly, Mrs. Slagg remaining in the home in Albion where she had lived at the time of her death for twenty-three years. Mrs. Slagg had always been in frail health but she has rapidly declined during the past few months. She died Tuesday evening, Jan. 10th, 1928, at about 10 o'clock. Besides her children she is survived by twelve grandchildren, a brother, Wm. Hemphill, and a sister, Mrs. Wm. Gifford, both of Edgerton, and many other relatives. She had many friends made through out a lifetime as teacher, mother and neighbor. Her influence had passed put an touched the life of the community at many points. Thise who served as pall bearers were her pupils in days past. She united in the membership of the Methodist Episcopal church Sept. 14th, 1872, and has remained a faithful member until her death. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R.J. Bailey of Edgerton at 2 o'clock at the house Friday afternoon. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Sayre. The large number of floral tributes showed the esteem in which she was held as a relative, friend and neighbor. Interment was made in the Albion Prairie cemetery. Relatives and friends from a distance to attend the funeral were Joe Slagg, Mrs. Sophia Slagg, Earl Roberts of Fort Atkinson; MR. and Mrs. Will Northey, Oakland; Mrs. Harry Lowe, Whitewater; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Striegel and Mrs. and Mrs. Will Whittet, Milton Junction; Mrs. Archie Templeton, Lima; Eugene Short, Beloit; W.E. Slagg, Eau Claire; J.A. Slagg, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. David Dahle, Deerfield.
