Obit is from the Wisconsin Tobacco Reporter, Edgerton, Rock Co., Wi. Thur. 28 Jan 1932: LORENZO CHARLES SPIKE Lorenzo Charles Spike, son of George and Eliza Spike, was born March 27, 1875, in the Town of Dunkirk, Dane County, Wisconsin, and died Wednesday morning, January 20, 1932, at the home of his son, Laurice, in Edgerton, WIsconsin, bringing his age to fifty-six years, ten months and seven days. He attended the common school, church and Sunday school, and grew to manhood on his parents farm near Stebbinsville. On March 19, 1902, he was united in marriage with Mattie Vickers of Albion Prairie. This union was blessed with one son. After engaging in farming for a number of years in the Town of Fulton and near Edgerton, they retired and built a home in Edgerton. His wife preceded him in death fifteen years ago. Three years ago, Mr. Spike underwent a serious operation from which he never fully recovered, and finally resulted in his death. Mr. Spike was a man who kept his own counsel; quiet, reserved and unassuming in all of his manners. He lived his life among his friends and neighbors; always seeking to emulate that golden precept which would have you do unto others as you would have others so unto you. He will be missed as a kind father, a true brother, and a considerate neighbor but they sorrow not as such who have no hope. His passing is mourned by an only son, Laurice, as well as his only grandson, Laurice Jr., also two brothers, Jesse of Stoughton, and George of Jim Falls, Wisconsin, and two sisters, Mrs. W. S. Heddles of Madison, Wisconsin and Mrs. S.F. Okey of Superior, Wisconsin, and a great many other near relatives. His funeral took place Friday afternoon, January 22, at 1:30 from the home of his son on Blaine Street, and from the Primitive Methodist Church on Albion Prairie. Rev. F. W. Schoenfeld of Edgerton, and Rev. W.J. Williams officiating at the services. Burial took place in the Albion Prairie cemetery. Among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral ceremonies were, Mrs. W.S. Heddles, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Teckmeyer, Madison, Mrs. S.F. Oakey, Superior, George Spike, Jim Falls, Mrs. Louise Barnard, Beloit, and Mrs. Alvin Loyd, Janesville.
