(DAVIS) CONVERSE He was a sheet metal worker Converse, Michael Royture MADISON - Michael Roy Converse, age 80, passed peacefully on to eternal life on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006. He was born in Superior on March 17, 1926, to Clyde "Charlie" and Alberta (Davis) Converse. Mike was an Irish twin to Patrick, born on St. Patrick's Day in 1926. He grew up in Superior and attended St. Louis grade school and Superior Central High School. Mike volunteered to serve in the Navy during World War II as Seaman First Class and was very proud to be a "Plank Owner" of the USS Boxer. He was a Sheet Metal Tradesman in the Madison area starting in 1966, before retiring from the City of Madison, in 1988, after seven years of service. Following retirement, Mike gained great satisfaction remodeling and rehabilitating homes. A perpetual thinker, creator and inventor; he was always on the lookout for a better or more efficient way to build and modify things. Mike had a great sense of humor, which he passed on to his children. He was a deputized volunteer scuba diver for Dane County. On Dec. 10, 1967, Otis Redding and his band were scheduled to perform in Madison when his plane went down into Lake Monona. Mike was one of the divers who assisted in successfully locating Otis Redding and his band members. He received recognition from the Mayor of Madison for his efforts. Mike is survived by three children, Pamela (Thomas) Miller of Waunakee, Kimberly (James) Schultz of Janesville and Gregory of Madison. He leaves behind his brothers, Patrick and Calvin; sister, Jeannine; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Del; brothers, Ed, Ross, Al, Ivan and Nel; as well as sisters, Eileen, Chris and Doris. A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at ST. ALBERT THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2402 St. Albert's Drive, Sun Prairie. Friends may greet the family from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. The Waunakee American Legion Post No. 360 will conduct graveside Military rites at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison. Mike will be greatly missed by his family and the angels of care from City View Altercare and Hospice. We love you!
