Sec 34, Lot MAUS-507-D Hamre, Betty J. MADISON - Betty J. Hamre, age 81, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Madison's Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 16, 1921, in London, Wis., daughter of the late Sydney and Lillian (Cook) Vanderpool. After her mother died, loving relatives raised Betty. Betty graduated from Madison East High School in 1938. During her working career, she was executive secretary for the president of the Madison Kipp Corporation, secretary to the Head of the English Department at the University of Wisconsin, and she was executive secretary to the Director of the U.S. Geological Survey in Madison as well as secretary to the president of Quest Financial of San Rafael, Calif., She had also served as executive secretary of the Sundome in Sun City West, Ariz. Betty loved the piano, travel, crossword puzzles and boating., She was a life-long member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison. She is survived by her husband, Gil Hamre, Madison; three daughters, Pat Hembel, Madison and California; Susan Fuhrmann, Madison; Barbara Busse (Jim), Stockton, Calif.; and son, Gil C. (Valerie) Hamre, Wisconsin Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; and many special cousins and friends. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003, at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Madison. Pastor George Bauman will officiate., Entombment will be in the Forest Hill Mausoleum, Madison., Friends may call from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Bethel Lutheran Television Ministry or the HospiceCare Center in honor of Betty's memory. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of the Anderson HospiceCare Center for their support and care of Betty.
