DE PERE - Opal N. Kingsbury passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at Rennes Health Center, De Pere, from congestive heart failure. Opal was born Dec. 19, 1907, to Frank and Iva (Fitzpatrick) Norton in Robinson, Ill. She attended Robinson High School and graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1935. Opal taught in Park Ridge, Ill., for five years. In September 1940, she married Irving Steffen of Madison, who preceded her in death in 1951. Opal was a librarian at Midvale School for 19 years, graduating from the University of Wisconsin Library School in 1966. In June 1971, she married Laurence Kingsbury of Lake Windsor. She was a 60-year member of Christ Presbyterian Church; serving as an elder, Sunday school teacher, and in Women's Association. Opal was a 40 year member of Chapter AE PEO in Madison. She was a life member of the YWCA and belonged to the Wisconsin State Retired Teacher's Association. Opal is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sandra Steffen of Green Bay; two granddaughters, Karen (Jay) Weber of Grafton, and Elizabeth Steffen of Milwaukee; special friend, Josh Kayzar; a great-granddaughter, Morgan Opal Weber; a step son, Wallace Kingsbury and family; step daughter, Dolores Sorenson and family; and a nephew, Chuck (Mary) Findley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Leafel Findley; sister-in-law, Adeline Steffen; and husband, Laurence Kingsbury. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at 11 a.m. at CHRIST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 944 E. Gorham St., Madison, with the Rev. Dale Chapin officiating. Reception and lunch will follow. Internment will be at Forest Hills Cemetery, Madison. In lieu of flowers, a memorial maybe made to Christ Presbyterian Church or PEO Continuing Education Fund Chapter AE, Madison. Cress Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
