Otterson, Betty J. MADISON - Betty J. Otterson, age 77, passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2004, while vacationing with her family in Colorado. Arrangements are pending. Otterson, Betty Jane MADISON - Betty Jane Otterson, age 77, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, while vacationing with her family in Colorado. She was born in Alma, Wis., on Oct. 13, 1926, the daughter of Orval and Gena (Hanson) Jost. Betty was a graduate of Alma High School. On June 21, 1947, she married Orlin J. Otterson. Betty was employed by Dane County in a variety of positions which included the DHIA, secretary to the county agent, and most recently accounting clerk for social services. After successful recovery from breast cancer she retired in 1990. Betty was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church for 57 years. Her volunteer efforts included Bethel's Altar Guild, work in the Parish Shop, Bossom Buddies and Look Good Feel Better. Betty received awards including state and national recognition as volunteer coordinator of Look Good Feel Better and was named in "Ten Who Make a Difference" by the Wisconsin State Journal in 1997. She enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad, square dancing and camping, both in Florida and Waupaca, with dear friends. She was a very proud and involved wife, mother and grandmother, and rarely missed an event that her sons and granddaughters were involved in. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Orlin; her sons, David (Molly) and Tom (Patty); three granddaughters, Brynna, Sam and Bailey; two aunts; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a very special sister, Phyllis "Fa" O'Neil. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, with the Rev. William R. White officiating. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Madison Chapter of Look Good Feel Better, 8317 Elderberry Road, Madison, WI 53717; or to Fibromyalgia research, AFSA, 6380 E. Tanque Verde Road, Suite D, Tucson, AZ 85715. Betty endured much pain from fibromyalgia. She will be sadly missed by her husband, family and friends, and Snuggles.
