Parsen, Sarah Elizabeth MADISON - Sarah Elizabeth Parsen, age 23, passed away on Oct. 28, 2005. Sarah Parsen's life was rich with love. She gave love full-heartedly and the people surrounding her, her family, her friends, her loved ones, gained much strength and comfort from her joyful energy and warming smile. Sarah grew up in Madison with her parents John and Celia and her brother Michael. Throughout her life, Sarah was very close to her family, her grandmothers, Pearl Parsen and Reta Lysenko, her uncles, Rod, John and Treble Lysenko and his family, including Sarah's aunt Laura and her cousins, Rachel and Nikita. Sarah shared many beautiful moments with her close family and an extended family of friends and loved ones. It was in 2003, while being in Australia as an exchange student from the University of LaCrosse, that Sarah met Troy Saunders, an Australian from Melbourne and smiled at him for the first time. They soon fell in love and their love grew into a strong relationship. Upon returning home, following her time abroad in Australia, Sarah finished her studies at the University of LaCrosse before starting to work with Humana in Waukesha. Despite the distance, the love Sarah and Troy shared never faded. It took two years for them to finally embrace their dream of being together, during which time their relationship held strong and their love for one another grew. In October 2005, Troy came to the States to be with Sarah and start a life together. One week later, when they were living their dream at its fullest, life decided to unite Sarah and Troy in love forever. They died in a tragic car accident near the cottage of Sarah's family in Door County, on the shores of Lake Michigan, a place where she had spent some of the most peaceful and happy moments of her young life. Everybody who knew Sarah's smile will remember her as someone who gave enough love to grasp the beauty of life in all its countless ways. Her smile lives on in our hearts. Sarah's family will hold a memorial service on Wednesday, Dec. 28th, 2005, at 6 p.m. at the FIRST UNITARIAN SOCIETY, 900 University Bay Drive, Madison, with the Rev. Michael Schuler. A memorial scholarship in Sarah's name is in the process of being established, allowing her love for teaching and learning to live on. Donations are to be sent to the Parsen family.
