MADISON - Kathryn M. Severson, age 84, passed away peacefully to her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at University Hospital, Madison. She was born on March 5, 1918, the daughter of Frank and Belva (Hansen) Crook. Born and raised in Dodgeville, Kathryn graduated from Dodgeville High School and attended Madison Business College. On Oct. 24, 1942, she married Howard M. Severson at Grace Lutheran Church, Dodgeville. Kathryn held many different positions during her career, including being a homemaker, a secretary for Preferred Title Company, and most recently working for the Dane County Register of Deeds. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and volunteered many years of service as a Sunday school secretary. Kathryn is survived by her husband of 60 years, Howard; two daughters, Mary K. (Stan) Marks of Eau Claire, and Janine A. Edgette of Sauk City; three grandchildren, Todd Marks of Eau Claire, and Emily and Kathryn Edgette, both of Madison; brother-in-law, Carlton (Nancy) Severson of Blanchardville; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer K. Marks, on Aug. 23, 2000; her parents; sister, Frances Alvstad; and two brothers, Willard V. Crook and Frank L. Crook. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, with the Rev. John Swanson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Mausoleum. Friends may greet the family from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Jennifer K. Marks Scholarship, care of UW-Eau Claire Scholarship Foundation, or to the Bethel Media Ministry. She will be sadly missed and remembered by family and friends.
