Sec 34, Lot MAUS-416-C Verhulst, Marvin Peter Pete MADISON - Marvin Peter Verhulst, age 95, died on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003., He was born on October 7, 1907 in Oostburg, Wis., the son of Henry A. and Hattie (Huibregtse) Verhulst., Marvin grew up in Sheboygan, Wis. where he attended U.S. Grant School, Sheboygan High School and the First Presbyterian Church., He graduated from Wooster College in Ohio as a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Sigma Iota., He was on the debating team for four years while in both high school and college., He received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1929 where he was awarded the Order of the Coif., While at the University, he met his future wife, Nathalie (Sally) Werner., Pete and Sally were married on Jan. 21, 1933 at the Werner home in Sun Prairie, Wis., Pete worked for a large law firm in Madison, but after a few years, he became the Executive Secretary of the Wisconsin Canners Association (currently Midwest Food Processors Association)., He held that position until 1973, but he continued on a part-time basis as a counsel for the association until 1999., He was an avid reader and he enjoyed gardening, golfing, traveling and playing bridge., He was a member of the Madison Club and Maple Bluff Country Club. He was a longtime member of The First Congregational Church where he served as, a Deacon and later became a member of Christ Presbyterian Church where he also served as a Deacon., He was an active member of the Madison Kiwanis Club until the spring of 2000., He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Verhulst; his son, Fred Verhulst; and a brother, Gordon Verhulst., He is survived by a daughter, Mary (Kenneth) Burbach, of Middleton, Wis.; a daughter-in-law, Norma Verhulst, of Venice, Fla.; four grandchildren, Christine Verhulst Peterson, of Venice, Fla., Catherine Verhulst, of Chicago, Ill, Patricia (Robert) Dorfman of Jupiter, Fla., and Brian (Sarah Bruch) Burbach, of Hudson, Wis., His family circle also included six great grandchildren, Luke, Jacob, Caleb, and Joseph Burbach and Abigail and Anne Dorfman; a nephew; three nieces and many good friends., He and his family were grateful for the tender, loving care given to him at Oakwood and at Meriter Hospital., A memorial service to celebrate Petes life will be held on Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Oakwood Reserection Chapel, 6201 Mineral Point Road with the Reverends Dr. Dale Chapin and Glen Reichelderfer officiating., Memorials may be given to the Downtown Kiwanis Club of Madison Foundation, c/o Peter Dohr, 2 E.
