John was born on Sept. 26, 1914, and was a life long Madison resident. He was the son of Sicilian immigrants, Joseph and Marie (Licali) Brashi. John was united in marriage to Mary Loniello on June 29, 1940. He worked for the Sam Parisi Construction Company of Middleton for many years before retiring in 1978, and was a security guard at Davis Duehr Dean on Regent Street. John was a member of the Italian Workmen's Club of Madison for many years. Over the years, he enjoyed fishing, good music, the Packers and playing poker with his club members. He especially enjoyed being around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John is survived by his sons, John Jr. of Madison, and Joseph (Kathy) of Sun Prairie; grandchildren, Laura, Lisa (Alan) Romeis, Staci, and Joe, all of Madison, Ann-Marie of Oregon, and Beth of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Cody, Dustin, Sharontae, and Aysha. He is also survived by three sisters, Georgina (Ed) Zeller and Elizabeth Brashi, both of Madison, and Ann (Charles) Golding of Cambridge; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife of almost 62 years, who died on June 3, 2002; his brothers, Vito and Dominic; and his sisters, Sara De Gregory, Kate Cuccia and Josephine Blankenheim. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 24, 2004, at 11 a.m. at ST. JAMES CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1128 St. James Court, with Monsignor. Thomas Baxter presiding. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Sunday, May 23, 2004, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, and also on Monday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church, or the HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711. John loved and adored his family and friends and had a heart of gold. He is now happily reunited with Mary who he lovingly cared for, for years. John - you had such an enormous heart and you'll be in our hearts forever. You will be greatly missed by all.
