OREGON - Jim Lemanski, age 65, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at HospiceCare after a two-year battle with neuroendocrine cancer, a very rare form of cancer. Jim was born Dec. 18, 1937, in Fennimore, Wis., the son of Clarence and Stella Lemanski. His family moved to Madison before he was 5 years old. He grew up on a farm on Badger Road that is now the nucleus of Lake Farm Park. He met his wife, Martha, when they were both 19 years old and they have been together ever since. Jim worked for more than 40 years in retail sales. He had a terrific sense of humor and many an appliance floor/TV department was brightened by his wit over the years. Jim was an enthusiastic, skillful gardener. He grew many beautiful flowers and had marvelous vegetable gardens. His loyalty to the Green Bay Packers started in the 1950s and never wavered throughout the years. He passed that fervor on to all three of his children. Jim was also very artistically gifted. He did drawings, oil paintings (all of which he framed himself), and later in life discovered he had a wonderful talent for carving birds-ranging from chickadees and shore birds to life size hawks and swans. Jim was half Irish and always enjoyed celebrating that part of his heritage. Jim enjoyed life to the fullest ... always ready to try something new. He is survived by his wife, Martha; three children, Kathleen of Madison, James Jr. (Linda) of Gonzales, La., and Lisa (David) Roberts of Baton Rouge, La.; and his "best friend," Annie, his golden Labrador. He is also survived by two brothers, Jerome (Pat) of Madison, and John (Lila) of Cottage Grove; a sister, Patricia Mehm of Buffalo, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, June. The family would like to express their appreciation to Pam Wick and the oncology nurses at the Dean Clinic on Fish Hatchery Road for their caring concern and support these past two years. Visitation will be Sunday, June 22, 2003, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 23, 2003, at 10 a.m. at ST.
