Fri. 13 Jan 1939: JOHN S. MCMAHAN DIES AT HOME AFTER ILLNESS John Steven McMahan, 69, of 1118 Bowen Ct., died at his home Thursday night after a long illness. The body was removed to the McGuire Funeral Home. Mr. McMahan, retired, had been a resident of Madison for the past 15 years and was a member of the Holy Name Society. Survivors are the widow; eight daughters, Vera and Rita, at home, Mrs. Frank Kanaker, Madison; Mrs. Frank Dwyer, Hill Point; Mrs. Otto Reger, Mineral Point; Mrs. Marvin Gunderson, Chicago; Sister Merita, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; and Sister Ethelinda, Sinsinawa; three sons, William, Madison; Donald, Chicago; and Victor, Los Angeles, Calif,; and 15 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 8:30 a.m. in the home and at 9 a.m. in St. James church, the Rev. J.A. Koelzer officiating. Obit is from the Capital Times, Madison, Dane Co., WI. MCMAHAN DIES HERE AT 69 Local Resident For 15 Years Is Survivived By 11 Children John Steven McMahan, 69, Madison resident for 15 years, died at his home, 1118 Bowen Ct., last night. He was a member of St. James church and of the Holy Name society. Surviving are eight daughters, Mrs. Marvin Gunderson, Chicago; Mrs. Otto Reger, Mineral Point; Mrs. Frank Dwyer, Hillpoint, Wis.; Sister M. Merita, Glen Ellyn, Ill,; Sister M. Etheline, Sinsinawa; Mrs. Frank Karrakar and Rita and Vera McMahan, Madison; three sons, Victor, Los Angeles; Donald, Chicago, and WIlliam, Madison, and 15 grandchildren. The body was taken from the McGuire funeral hime to the residence this afternoon. Funeral services will be held Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the home, and at 9 a.m. in St. James church. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery. His daughter Mary's birth record states he was born in Elsworth, KS.
