Beth was born in New Orleans, La., on July 7, 1955. She was always a very giving person to all who knew her, especially to her husband, Peter Hubbard, her children, Edward and Marie and all her family. This inherent concern for the welfare of others was expressed in her goal to be a nurse. Beth attended Blessed Sacrament School (Madison) and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1973. She then entered the University of Wisconsin- Madison School of Nursing and graduated in December 1977 with a BSN degree. She began working as a nurse in the field of rehabilitation medicine, and she was appointed clinical nurse manager in the acute rehabilitation unit after only four years. During her tenure as nurse manager, she obtained her M.S. in nursing administration in 1996, and taught in the school of nursing at UW-Madison. Beth was a certified rehabilitation registered nurse (1987- 2004) and a member of the board of directors of the UW School of Nursing Alumni Association (1997-2002). She was co-chairperson of the education committee and member of the board of directors of the Wisconsin Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (1997-2002). Her honors include membership in the Sigma Theta Tau International Honors Society (1993-present) and recipient of the Nursing Excellence Award of the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in 1993. In 1999, Beth assumed the additional responsibility of clinical nurse manager of the family practice unit. She then remained as clinical nurse manager of both services until December 2001, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Following her diagnosis she resigned her position as nurse manager and became a clinical nurse specialist in the same departments. She worked in this position until six weeks before her death. Beth loved her time with her many friends, colleagues and patients while working at the hospital. She always lovingly cared for her family while fulfilling her many professional responsibilities. She loved spending time with friends and family at their Wood Lake home. Beth was strongly committed to her faith and all who knew her were touched by her attitude of peace and acceptance. She made a positive difference in the lives of her family, her staff, her patients and her friends, and the world is a better place because of her. Beth is survived by her loving husband, Peter Hubbard; son and daughter, Edward and Marie; father and mother, Henry and Julie Pitot; six sisters, Anita (Gregory) Mayer of Paradise Valley, Ariz., Jeanne (Robert) Pitot-Frank of Madison, Catherine (Gregory) Genin of Madison, Michelle (Lori Pascarella) Pitot of Tucson, Ariz., Lisa (Kelley Roberts) Pitot of Fort Collins, Colo., and Patrice Pitot (fiance Eric Bruenman) of San Francisco, Calif.; brother, Henry (Kika Dudiak) Pitot of Rochester, Minn.; mother-in-law Patricia Kelley of Madison; sister-in-law, Patti Ann (Eric) Orvold of Madison; brother-in-law, Richard (Claudia) Hubbard of Long Island, N.Y.; and 13 loving nieces and nephews. Dont grieve for me for now Im free. Im following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard him call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day; to laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found that peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss; Ah yes those things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, Ive savored much; good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my life seems all too brief, don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me. God wanted me now. He set me free. - author unknown.
