Hoyt of this place and Earl of Columbus, on Monday last effected the amputation of a diseased foot on the person of Mrs. Alvira Townsend. The disease was "Necrases [sic] of the Metatarsal Bones", which commenced at the great toe and was proceeding in its slow course of destruction towards the body. The operation was performed by cutting the foot off directly thro' the instep. Her toes had been cut off by a former amputation, but this time it is believed the disease is entirely eradicated. The operation was performed while the patient was under the influence of chloroform [sic], administered by J.W. Robinson, Apothecary.
