Mr. Reuben Barney, a short notice of whose death appeared in our last issue, was born in Caoga County, N.Y., May 17, 1838. He was married to Clarissa A. Hart at Hartwick, N.Y. on November 29, 1856. Of this union four children were born, three of whom preceded Mr. Barney in death. The only living child is James Emery Barney who has been in the Panama Canal zone in the government service for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Barney came to Wisconsin in the fall of 1860 and located at Saylesville, where they have since made their home. They were the oldest residents of this neighborhood and have seen their old friends and neighbors, one by one, pass on to "that home from which no traveler ever returns," until but very few of the old settlers are left. Mrs. Barney, known to the entire community as "Aunt Clara" who has been a constant companion to Mr. Barney during their fifty-two years of married life, was with him constantly during his long illness, patiently bearing the burden that would have crushed many a younger woman. She has the sympathy of a host of friends in this time of her bereavement.
