Hudson, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 Date filmed : 30 Nov. 1990, 20X reduction Project Number : WISC-0152A, roll number 4 Locality of Record : Door Co. Title of Record : Birth, Marriage, Death, Obit., ETC. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The 16 rolls of microfilm are of many thousands of hand-written 3x5 index cards prepared by Sally Treichel (still alive as of Sep 18, 1997). The data for births, deaths, marriages, and divorces was excerpted from the archives of the various newspapers that serve(d) Door County, as well as from census records (1860, 1870, 1880, others?). This raw data was also synthesized into family cards showing parents, children, spouses, and pertinent dates on the same card. * WARNING * WARNING * WARNING * WARNING * WARNING * WARNING * * WARNING * WARNING * WARNING * WARNING * WARNING * WARNING * The data files available here are a mere fraction of the data available on the original microfilm. Since many of my ancestors (on my mothers side) came from Door County, this data was a treasure trove. For the surnames of : BAUMAN(N), FAKEN, KRA(E)MER, STEINER, VOGEL, ZETTEL, ZETTLE I made 129 pages of photocopies from microfilm (3 card-sides per page, for a total of 387 card-sides from 278 cards). I intended to enter this information into a computer database so that I could more easily work with it. (There's nothing better than transcribing data to learn what you've REALLY got!) Now that I am getting into it, I am interested in expanding the project and entering more data. I'm also interested in some other names that are in the cards (GETTINGER, KUGE, and PETERSON). If you could happen to photocopy pages of interest (yours and mine) from the microfilm and mail the copies to me, I'd be happy to enter the data into my database and get the data to the USGenWeb Project. CURRENT STATE OF THE DATA AVAILABLE HERE: As of September 24, 1997: 50 pages, 150 card-sides, 109 cards entered for the main surnames BAUMAN(N), FAKEN, STEINER, VOGEL 690 different names (includes duplicates such as Joe SCHLISE, Jos. SCHLISE, and Joseph SCHLISE) 198 different surnames (includes some misspellings) 135 surnames appear once; 183 surnames appear less than 4 times; NOTE: misspellings are entered exactly as they appear on the cards DATA FORMAT: The "TREICHEL" data contains 6 types of index cards: Birth, Marriage, Death, Divorce, Family, and Census cards. The Birth, Marriage, Death, and Divorce cards consist of multiple single-line records of event occurrences. Census cards give an implied family unit at the time of the census. Family cards give information for the parents, their children (and their spouses), obituary notices, and miscellaneous notes. Birth, Marriage, Death, Divorce, and Family Obituary records give the date of publication and the name of the source; these records SOMETIMES also give the actual date of the event. * CAUTION * CAUTION * CAUTION * CAUTION * CAUTION * CAUTION * * CAUTION * CAUTION * CAUTION * CAUTION * CAUTION * CAUTION * The following Data Description is not set in concrete: if the data requires tweaking field widths, I will do so.
