He came to this country in 1854, and lived in Cincinnati about two years. He came to Menomonie, April 20, 1856. He was employed by Knapp, Stout & Co., for about ten years, and was in the lumber department of that firm for six or seven years; was afterward employed as clerk in the flouring mill. He was married in 1863, to Margaret Habermeier, born in Germany.
