McKahan, Postmaster, Menomonie, son of William McKahan, who was born in Washington Co., Pa, in 1807, was married in Pennsylvania, his wife being born the same year. He came with his family to this place from Pennsylvania in August 1857. They came by steamboat from Pittsburgh to Reed's Landing, and thence to Dunnville. Here he took charge of the merchantile department of the business of Knapp, Stout & Co., which position he held for about three years. He then purchased a farm in the town of Red Cedar, where he lived several years. Afterward settled in the village of Menomonie, where he engaged in the livery business, being the first who embarked in that enterprise in the village. Was also proprietor of the Menomonie House for two years. He died suddenly, on his way home from Durand, 10 October 1872. His wife died in Minneapolis a short time subsequent to the death of her husband. They had nine children, two of whom died in infancy. Three sons and four daughters remain. S. D. McKahan was born in Pennsylvania in 1843. He was engaged as clerk for his brother, J. B. McKahan, for several years. Was also in business for himself several years. He has been Postmaster at Menomonie since 1870. He was married to Parnella Neusom, born in Ohio.
