Born in the Kingdom of Saxony in 1829. Came to the United States about 1849. He came by way of New Orleans to St. Louis; thence to Illinois, where he lived about two years. He came to Menomonie in 1853, and was in the employ of Knapp, Stout & Co. for fifteen years, taking charge of the bakery department of that firm. His first business venture for himself was with Mr. Schutte, which partnership was dissolved in 1873. His wife was Minnie Schutte, a sister of Mr. William Schutte, his former partner. Has four children-- Erdah, Fred, Bennie and an infant daughter.
