G. Dalton at Bloomer on Sunday morning, after an illness of only a few days. She has been in failing health for some time past from Infirmaties incident to old age, but was able to be about until a couple of days before the end. Rachel Withrow was born in White Country, Ill., Jan. 22, 1829. She was married to Stephen Dalton on July 12, 1844, after which she lived in Kentucky four years, returning to Illinois where she lived until 1864, when she moved to Wisconsin. In 1879 she moved to Kansas where they resided until the death of Mr. Dalton in 1884. Since his death she has made her home with her children, most of the time with her daughter, Mrs. Henrietta Shipman of Bloomer. To the couple nine children were born, four sons and two daughters surviving. She was a woman of Sterling, Christian character who was loved by every body and was known as Grandma Dalton by all. She was a woman of wonderful physical strength and made two trip to California and back alone after she had reached the age of Seventy years, the last trip she made the year she was eighty years old. The funeral was held at the Cong. church in Bloomer last Monday afternoonev., R.A. Bell officiating. Interment was made in the Chase Settlement cemetary.
