Resided for a time in Vermont, then in Massachusetts, where he learned the trade of cabinet maker. Came west with his parents; settled in Eau Claire about 1866. Married in Massachusetts, to Catherine Fry. They have six children of whom survive Marie E. (married to C. McCann, 1879), John C., Frederick and Catherine.
