Deyo was born in Peru, Huron county, Ohio, son of Erastus and Salome (Mauley) Deyo. The father was born in New York state and descended from the Huguenots, while the mother was born in Ohio of English ancestry. Burt E. was educated at Oberlin College and the law department of Harvard University; read law in the office of Bartlett & Hayden, was admitted to the bar in 1882, and to practice in the Supreme Court of the state in 1900. --Taken from "The History of Eau Claire County, 1914, Past & Present", page 300.
