Visited in a number of the southern states, where he mostly was connected in the lumber trade. Came to Eau Claire in 1883, worked for several lumber companies as grader, checker and salesman. In 1901 he moved to Fall Creek, where he is running a lumber yard of his own under the firm name of The Fall Creek Lumber Co. He married, June, 1884, Miss Augusta Arnsdorf.
