ROBERT E. SCOTT, retired farmer, Augusta wass born in Roxburyshire, 
Scotland, Dec. 22, 1820; came to America in the Spring of 1844; first
located in town of Oakland, Jefferson Co., Wis.; he was engaged in farming
there until 1850, when he moved to Cambridge, Dane Co.; there he carried 
on hotel for three years; afterward in mercantile business until he came 
to the town of Otter Creek, Eau Claire Co., where he located in Sec. 9, 
in what is now known as Scott's Valley, it having acuqired that name from 
the fact that he was the first settler in that locality.  He reised there 
until 1877, when he removed to Augusta.  For many years he was Chairman 
of the Town Board of Otter Creek, and for eighteen years held the office
of Justice of the Peace in that town.  He was first married in the town
of Oakland, Jefferson Co., Wis., to Helen Moore, a native of Dumfrieshire,
Scotland.  She died Oct. 1, 1876, leaving two sons, Charles W. and John M.
Mr. Scott's present wife is Charlotte R. Ball, who was born in Ohio.  They
have two children, Esther Pearl and Ruby Mary.  Mr. Scott started the Otter
Creek Farmers' Insurance Company, which is a successful and flourishing 
institution, now having a business of over $200,000.
