Submitted by: Kent Robarge 28 September 2003 ************************************************************************ Auer, Norman Obituary of Normal Auer in Thursday, Dec. 23, 1948 Eau Claire Leader (Eau Claire, Eau Claire County, WI) Norman Auer Dies Following Brief Illness Normal Albert Auer, 61, of 503 Forest st., died at the Sacred Heart hospital yesterday morning at 6:45 after an illness of eight days. Services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the Masonic Temple, the Very Rev. Gordon E. Brant, of Christ Church Cathedral, officiating. Masonic services will also be conducted at the temple. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Lenmark's Thursday afternoon and evening and at the Masonic temple from Friday noon up to the time of services. Mr. Auer was born in Durand on July 4, 1887, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Auer, coming to Eau Claire with his parents when a boy of five. He attended the public schools here and was a graduate of the Eau Claire high school. For some years he was associated with his father in the printing business and then joined the staff of the Gillette Rubber Co., and had remained with its successor, the Gillette tire plant of the U.S. Rubber Co., up to the time of his last illness. He was a member of the Gillette Tire company 20-year club. He is survived by his widow, Ida Stockbridge Auer, a brother, Frank C. Auer, of Eau Claire, and a sister, Mrs. Clara Ellis, of Maquoketa, Ia. He was a member of all the Masonic bodies, active in the Eau Claire consistory, and at the time of his death was eminent grand captain general of the Wisconsin grand lodge, Knights Templar, and was also a past eminent commander of the Eau Claire commandery; Knights Templar. He was the youngest commander serving the commandery. He was also a member of the Elks lodge here.
