Submitted by: Kent Robarge 28 September 2003 ************************************************************************ Betz, George Martin Obituary in Eau Claire Leader Friday, Sept 8, 1916 "HL: George Betz Is Called By Death: End Came Yesterday Morning Following Stroke of Paralysis a Few Weeks Ago George Betz, aged forty-nine years, one of the pioneer residents of Eau Claire, passed away at 4 a.m. yesterday at his home on Oxford avenue after a brief illness. Death was due to a stroke of paralysis which Mr. Betz suffered three weeks ago last Sunday noon while partaking of dinner. Mr. Betz had returned only the morning before from a trip to Milwaukee and that evening was apparently in the best of health. There was a decided turn for the worse last evening and he rapidly failed till the end came, unable to rally due to a weak heart. The deceased was born and reared here, first seeing the light of day at the old Betz home on the north side, the proposed auditorium site. He was a gentleman well liked and respected by all who enjoyed his acquaintance. For the past eighteen years he had been engaged in the butcher business in the city and was during the last few years of his business career a member of the firm of Betz and Erity. The deceased is survived by his wife and three daughters, Lorena, Lillian and Caroline, all of whom have the heartfelt sympathy of their many friends. Announcement of the funeral will be made later."
