This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Nance Sampson 25 February 1999 ==================================================================== Custodian at St. Benedict's School Dies Peter Harris, 79, Altoona, died suddenly of a heart attack at St. Benedict's School for Boys, where he was employed as custodian the past 20 years, about 8 o'clock this morning (7 April 1942). He was last seen alive about 7 a.m. An hour and a half later Sister Joseph went to the boiler room to call him to breakfast and found the elderly man dead in his chair. Mr. Harris, who was a deaf mute, had indicated recently that he occasionally suffered from a pain in his chest. He appeared in his usual health and spirits when last seen alive. Mr. Harris, who was a bachelor, was born at New Berlin, Wis., now a part of the city of Milwaukee, and went to Humbird with his parents when a small child. He came to Altoona 20 years ago and was employed several years as custodian of St. Mary's Academy holding the post when the institution became St. Benedict's. He is survived by one brother, John Harris, Altoona, ten nephews and nine nieces. The funeral will be held Thursday with services at the Eau Claire Funeral Home at 8 a.m. and at St. Mary's church, Atloona, at 8:30 a.m. The Rev. Fr. John Schulte will officiate and interment will be at Fairview cemetery in Fairchild.
