Hayes, 98, 2120 Heights Dr., and formerly of 610 Gray St., Eau Claire, passed away Thursday, April 4, 1996, at The Clairemont Nursing Facility. Louise was born July 16, 1897, in Eau Claire County, to Albert and Nettie (Kent) Tanz. She was a 1921 graduate of the Anker School of Nursing of Ramsey County Hospital in St. Paul. She did postgraduate training in surgical nursing at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. She was a surgical nurse and the Eau Claire Clinic. Louise married Dr. Edwin Patrick Hayes Oct. 28, 1922, in St. Paul. Dr. Hayes was a partner in the Eau Claire Clinic. Louise was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, as well as many area organizations which include Family Service Association, American Red Cross since 1918, and a charter member of the Eau Claire Business and Professional Women's Club. She held 50-year membership in the Eau Claire Women's Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a 50-year member and past president of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter AF. During World War II Louise served as advisor to the Luther Hospital Student Council. In 1939 she was one of the founders of Sacred Heart Hospital Auxiliary. Louise is survived by a nephew, Kenneth (Lucile) Betz and a grandniece, Sandra Betz, all of Eau Claire; a grandnephew, Thomas (Jane) Betz and two great-grandnephews, Daniel and Michael Betz, all of Hudson; a grandnephew, Roger (Sally) Rahn of Cedarburg; several cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Myra Betz; a nephew, Chauncey Betz. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at First Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. James Savides officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Fuller-Speckien Funeral Home is assisting the family. The family suggests memorials be given to First Congregational United Church of Christ, UW-Eau Claire Foundation, the Dr. E.P. Hayes Memorial Fund for premedical students or the Chippewa Valley Museum."
