DIED: 24 December 1949 in Brookings, South Dakota South Dakota Newspaper: "White Leader" ORIN ORLANDO WARD Orin Orlando Ward, former resident of White, commonly known as Ora Ward, passed away December 24, 1949, at the Erickson Home of Brookings. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 28, at the Bartling funeral parlors in Brookings. Burial was made in the family lot at Brookings. Mr. Ward was born February 12, 1872. He farmed near white and Brookings twenty years, then moved to Brookings to make his home there, ad where his wife died. Following her death, he lived alone until three years ago when, due to impaired hearing and sight, he could no longer be alone and went to the Erickson Home. He suffered a light stroke which proved fatal and caused his death at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 12 days. He was prededed in death by a daughter, Nellie, a son, Orville and his wife. He leaves five sons: Walter of Fort Mead, S. Dak., who was not able to attend the services, Earl and Theo of Custer, Harry of Sioux Falls and Kenneth of Minneapolis, Minn. The four sons were present at the funeral. There are also a number of great-grandchildren. A niece, Mrs. Wm.
