Note that the German Catholic Cemetery is Sacred Heart Cemetery in Eau Claire. Note that the Wisconsin Genealogy Index inaccurately shows his name as "Menzel Grill." Additional Comments: Wenzel GRILL - His name is misspelled (phonetic for German accent) in 1880 and 1900 US Censuses, and names are transcribed differently depending on transcriber (1880: Venal KRELL and Vencel KRELL; 1900 Venal KRIELL). Addresses in censuses were cross-checked with Eau Claire directories and voters lists, and confirm that this is Wenzel GRILL (aka Wenzell GRILL). 1900 census shows: Address: 724 Birch Street, Eau Claire, WI; Birthdate: Aug 1850; Birthplace: Germany; parents born in Germany: married 24 years (about 1876) to Mary FEIRER (her name also is spelled a variety of ways in official documents); Immigrated 1872; Occupation: railroad laborer. While the 1900 census shows "3 children, 0 living," it is believed that they were survived by a son John GRILL who married Theresia WALTER and continued to live at 724 Birth Street. Mary subsequently remarried to a neighbor/widower: Joseph Sippel in 1903. She died in 1912.
