Biography: Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin: John Spence ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, August 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ John Spence, manufacturer; was born at Tyrone, Ireland; came to Ohio in 1858, where he enlisted May, 1861, in Co. B., 26th Ohio V.I., called "Fullerton Rifles"- the first three years men offered in that State; he served three years as a private, Sergeant, Sergeant Major, Lieutenant and Adjutant, resigning on account of ill health in April, 1864. He then went to Europe two years to recuperate, returning and locating at Fond du Lac in 1866, where he engaged in the crockery business until 1874; after that he engaged in loaning money, but is now Secretary and Treasurer of the McDonald Manufacturing Co., builders of the "Pride of the West" thrashers.
