Dec. 29, 1941, p. 16 Hunter expires at Green Lake. John Nelson, city employe, is stricken while hunting rabbits Sunday. John Nelson, 60, an employe in the Fond du Lac street department, died of a heart attack Sunday while hunting rabbits on farmland seven miles west of Green Lake in company with Frank Longun of this city. He was found by Mr. Longun after the latter began looking for him when he had received no answer to calls. The body will be at the Geo. M. Dugan funeral home tonight, funeral services to be held there at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and at 9 a.m. from St. Joseph’s church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Born March 16, 1881, at Clem Falls, Polk county, son of Mary and John Nelson, he was married to Miss Gertrude Beyer of his city Sept. 14, 1905. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson resided on a farm in Lamartine until 1919, when they moved to Fond du Lac, residing at 10 North Hickory street. Prior to taking over his duties with the city street department six years ago, Mr. Nelson was employed as a labor foreman for the Immel Construction company for 15 years. Mr. Nelson was a member of St. Joseph’s church, the Holy Name society, the Catholic Order of Foresters and Third Oder of St. Francis. Surviving are his widow; two sons, Leo J. of Racine, Alvin M. of Kenosha, a daughter, Rosalie Elisabeth at home; two grandsons, Alvin, Jr., and Jerome David of Kenosha; two brothers, Matthew and Andrew of Woodhull and six sisters, Mrs. D.W. Trescott of thie city, Miss Anna Nelson, city, Mrs. Fred Zahnle of Highland Park, Ill., Mrs. Lou Patton and Mrs. C.R. Short of Milwaukee and Mrs. A.R. Zinke, city. Nelson, 10 North Hickory street, who died Sunday afternoon of a heart attack when hunting at Green Lake, were conducted at 8:30 a.m. today from the Geo. M. Dugan Funeral home and at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph’s church. The Rev. John T. Cullen officiated at the funeral and burial was in Calvary cemetery. Honorary pallbearers, members of the Holy Name society, were William Chandler, John Daley, Nick Hein, Wailliam McGinnity, Edward Longergan and Jerome Lyons. Active pallbearers were Matt Paulie, Frank Longun, Edward Bednarek, Earl Brisbande, Elmer Salchert and Harry Wilson.
